Journal of Alevi Studies Formally Established under Hamburg University Press

We are pleased to announce an important development for the field of Alevi Studies. After a long period of preparation and collective effort, the Journal of Alevi Studies (JAS) has now been formally established and will begin its publication journey under the institutional framework of Hamburg University Press.

The establishment of JAS marks an important step in the ongoing internationalisation and institutionalisation of Alevi Studies. In recent years, the field has gained increasing visibility through new academic publications, conferences, workshops, digital archives, university-based initiatives, community-linked research projects, and multilingual platforms of knowledge production. These developments have created a growing need for a dedicated, peer-reviewed, and international journal that can bring together scholarly work on Alevism across disciplines, languages, and countries.

The creation of such a journal has also been one of the long-term aims of the Alevi Studies Network. Since its reactivation in 2022, ASN has worked to support academic exchange, increase the visibility of new research, connect scholars at different career stages, and strengthen communication within the emerging international field of Alevi Studies. With around 450 members today, ASN reflects both the expansion of scholarly interest in Alevism and the need for durable academic platforms that can support the future development of the field.

The Journal of Alevi Studies aims to provide an international, peer-reviewed, and multilingual platform in English, German, and Turkish for scholarly research on Alevism and Alevi communities in their historical, cultural, religious, political, and diasporic diversity. The journal seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and to offer a sustainable and visible publication venue for both established and emerging scholars working in Alevi Studies and related fields.

The Call for Papers for the first issue of JAS will be released soon. Further information about the journal, including its website and submission procedures, will be shared in due course. We look forward to future contributions and to working together in strengthening this new platform for Alevi Studies.
